Synopsis
In 1906, a full-scale scandal shocks the bourgeois society across Europe. The forced prostitute Marie König rises up against being abused in a noble brothel. Violence and exploitation are the order of the day behind the façades of the brothels that are being tolerated from Paris to Vienna. But Marie König goes to court – and she wins. Taking her example, this film explores the history of women trafficking and prostitution in Europe in the early years of the 20th century and sheds light on the police’s ambivalent role and the media’s voyeurism.
